Matings were between heterozygous ld^GKO/ld^ln2 parents. All offspring were genotyped by Southern blot analysis. Pregnant females were checked twice daily for litters to minimize the chance of missing pups that died at birth. All pups were scored under a dissecting microscope for limb phenotype and for kidney abnormalities.
