The mariner insect transposon-like element (MITE) is depicted with four hypothetical transposase molecules (filled circles) at the ends. The model consist of three parts: (1) trans-acting transposase initiating a double-strand break at MITE, (2) CMT1A-REP providing 24 Kb of ~99% homology for recombination mediated repair, and (3) the hotspot reflecting resolution of the Holliday junction.
