Phenotype of hippocampal neurons from wild-type mice, and from synapsin I, synapsin II, and synapsin I/II double knockout mice. Hippocampal neurons obtained from embryonic E16 wild-type (A, B), synapsin I (C, D), synapsin II (E, F), and synapsin I/II double (G, H) knockout mice were cultured for 24 hr, stained with a monoclonal antibody against tubulin (A, C, E, G) and counterstained with rhodamine-tagged phalloidin (B, D, F, H). Note the aberrant morphology of the synapsin II-deficient neurons. Scale bar: 20 µm.
