Aβ induces monocyte secretion of cytokines. Monocytes (5 × 105) were cultivated in RPMI medium with 10% autologous serum in the presence of indicated concentrations of Aβ or DMSO. Media were harvested 48 hr later and the concentrations of (A) TNF-α, (B) IL-6, (C) IL-12, and (D) IL-10 were determined by the cytokine ELISA assay. a, significantly different from DMSO control and 0.25 µg/ml of Aβ, p < 0.05; b, significantly different from 2.5 µg/ml of Aβ, p < 0.05; c, significantly different from 0.25 µg/ml of Aβ, p < 0.05.
