IL-10 completely blocks LPS-induced release of MIP-1α, while only partially inhibiting release of MIP-1β. (A, B) Macrophages (1 × 106 cells) were incubated for 18 hr with 10 ng/ml LPS either in the absence (solid bars) or presence (cross-hatched bars) of the indicated amount of IL10. Culture medium was then removed and the MIP-1α content quantified by murine MIP-1α ELISA (A) or murine MIP-1β ELISA (B). Data are from a representative experiment (of 3) and are expressed as the mean ± SD of values obtained from triplicate macrophage stimulations.
