TGF-β dose-dependently inhibits LPS-induced MIP-1α release in vitro, but is without significant effect on MIP-1β. (A, B) Macrophages (1 × 106 cells) were incubated for 18 hr with the indicated amount of TGF-β either in the absence (solid bars) or presence of varying concentrations of LPS. Culture medium was then removed and the MIP-1 peptide content quantified by murine MIP-1α ELISA (A) or murine MIP-1β ELISA (B). Data are from a representative experiment (of 3) and are expressed as the mean ± SD of values obtained from triplicate macrophage stimulations.
