Cytokine expression in human 16HBE cells cultured in the absence (−) and presence (+) of bFGF. Oligonucleotide primers complementary to human IL-1α, IL-1β, IL-6, and actin were used. Total RNA obtained from confluent cultures was reverse-transcribed and amplified by PCR for 25 cycles using the primers specific for each cytokine and for the actin. Ethidium bromide-stained agarose gel of PCR products is shown. A 100-bp DNA marker ladder is shown on the left side of the gel.
