Hypoxia increases IL-8 mRNA expression in human monocyte-derived macrophages. Human macrophages were exposed to normoxia (N) or hypoxia (H). IL-8 mRNA expression was determined by northern blot analysis. Hypoxia significantly increased IL-8 mRNA as measured by densitometry, expressed as a percentage increase over normoxic controls (A). (P < 0.01 for all time points, minimum of n = 3). Representative blots are shown (B) and comparable loading is demonstrated with an 18s housekeeping probe.
