Lysozyme reduces serum AGE (A) and enhances renal AGE-clearance (B) in AGE-treated, non-diabetic rats.

AGE-BSA (40 mg), AGE-BSA (40 mg) + hen egg LZ (200 mg), LZ (200 mg) or PBS were injected daily i.p. into normal rats (n = 5/group) for 12 days. Serum AGE (sAGE) levels are expressed as U/ml and urinary AGE clearance as ml/min. Each point represents the mean ± standard deviation (M ± SD) of triplicate values obtained from each animal group. **p < 0.01 vs control, *p < 0.05 vs. control, #p < 0.01 vs AGE + LZ group.
