From: Heme Oxygenase-2 Is Neuroprotective in Cerebral Ischemia
HO1 induction following MCAO. Mouse brain sections were examined after 1 hr ischemia and 23 hr reperfusion using in situ hybridization (HO1 mRNA) and immunohistochemistry for immunoreactive HO1 (IR-HO1), glial (IR-GFAP; glial fibrillary acidic protein) and microglial (IR-CD11b) markers. HO1 mRNA and protein are induced in the border surrounding the infarct core. The induction appears to occur in reactive microglia.
