Southern blot analysis of the gene encoding STM sialyltransferase in normal and tumor human mammary epithelial cell lines. A full-length stm cDNA was 32P-labeled and used as a probe. Each lane contained 20 µg of total EcoRI-restricted genomic DNA. The sizes of hybridizing fragments were 7.8, 6.2, and 4.4 kb. The size of the higher band present only in BT-474, 21NF, and leukocyte was 9.9 kb, and that of the lower band present only in MDA-MB-231 and BT-549 was 4.1 kb.
