High power scanning electron micrographs of the samples shown in Fig. 3 . Note that the crystalline particles deposited show protuberances, apparently caused by engulfment of small, freshly nucleated CaOx crystals and the seed crystals by the CaOx growth front. In the presence of HA and BR seeds, however, the seeds are also seen lying free on the filtration membrane and attached like barnacles on the surfaces of the freshly precipitated CaOx crystals.
