  1. Rat brain capillary endothelial cells and human brain capillary endothelial cells were treated with either TNFα or H2O2 or with both agonists for 24 hr and apoptotic nuclei were stained with TUNEL assay and quantitated by means of ScionImage software as described in Materials and Methods. Each data point represents percentage of TUNEL-positive nuclei per a microscopic field (mean ± SD of 15 microscopic fields). The summaries of the results of three separate experiments (two in RBEC and one in HBEC) are presented. Statistical comparison between synergistic treatment with TNFα and H2O2 and separate treatments was performed by means of one-way ANOVA followed by Dunnett’s test. Data marked with * statistically differ from all other groups (p values < .05).
