The CREB1-miR-181a-5p loop in BMSCs from FD lesions. Overproduction of cAMP promotes CREB1 phosphorylation, and p-CREB1 binds to the CRE in the miR-181a promoter to suppress its transcription. Downregulation of miR-181a-5p leads to enhanced proliferation ability, decreased apoptotic capacity, and impaired osteogenic differentiation of FD BMSCs and increases the osteoclast differentiation potential, resulting in clinicopathological features of FD. Moreover, downregulation of miR-181a-5p promotes CREB1 expression by decreasing the inhibition of its translation and further exacerbates pathological manifestations of FD
