Unusual morphologies of mitochondria during cold incubation. Cells incubated at 4 °C for 48 h (AD) showed unusual mitochondrial morphologies such as donut (d in A, C), blob (b in BD) or lasso structures (L in B, D). The images were documented using fluorescence microscopy (λexc. = 546 ± 6 nm, λem. ≥ 590 nm; AD). Electron microscopy (E, F) confirmed the occurrence of donut-like mitochondrial morphologies (d in E, F) already after 6 h of cold incubation
