PGE2 production in cultured PBMCs from children with malaria. PBMCs (1 × 106 cells/mL) from healthy malaria-exposed children (control, n = 20) and children with malaria (malaria, n = 10) were cultured in the presence and absence of LPS (100 ng/mL) and IFN-γ (200 U/mL). Supernatants were collected at 120 h for PGE2 determination. Values are the mean ± SEM. Statistical significance was determined by the Mann-Whitney U test. *P < 0.01 compared with unstimulated conditions, **P < 0.05 compared with control.
