GTS-21 attenuates TNF and IL-1β levels in endotoxin-stimulated human whole blood. Whole blood was incubated with PBS, GTS-21, or nicotine at the indicated concentrations 15 min prior to addition of endotoxin (10 ng/mL), and cytokine levels in plasma were determined 4 h after. Each drug concentration was tested in duplicate in whole blood obtained from five different donors. Data shown as mean ± SEM. **P< 0.01 versus control; #P< 0.01 versus GTS-21 100 µmol/L.
