Ultrastructural detection of MK by immunoelectron microscopy of lung tissue in COPD. (A) Immunogold-labeling of ultrathin sections was performed on small airway lung tissue from a COPD patient. Colloidal gold particles indicate location of bound antibodies against MK. MK is present on the surface of cilia (B) and on the bronchial epithelial cell surface (C and D). Scale bars: A = 10 µm, B = 1 µm and C and D = 100 nm.
