The subjects studied in this trial exhibited both small and large nerve fiber dysfunction. Baseline characteristics of sensory function as assessed using quantitative sensory testing performed using sites on the hand, face, and foot. Thermal thresholds (small fiber function) were especially abnormal, but there also is evidence indicative of large fiber dysfunction as well (vibration and allodynia). The distal extremity exhibited significant allodynia. Negative z scores indicate loss of function and positive score indicate gain of function.
