Fig. 1

Results from immunization of BALB/c mice with 100 µg pCMV(A)-S in saline by various routes. Upper panel: Each bar represents the group geometric mean titer (GMT) (±SEM) determined by end-point dilution ELISA assay for HBsAg-specific antibodies (anti-HBs, total IgG) in plasma of mice that responded (end-point titer >10) taken 8 weeks after immunization. Number of responders per group total is indicated below graph. End-point dilution titers were determined as the highest sample dilution resulting in an absorbance value two times that of nonimmune plasma, with a cut-off value of 0.05. Lower panel: Each bar represents the mean HBsAg-specific lysis (±SEM) as a percentage of the total possible lysis (% specific lysis) at effector-to-target ratio (E:T) of 50:1 in splenocytes from mice that responded (% specific lysis >10) 8 weeks after immunization. Number of responders per group total is indicated above graph. ND, not determined.
