Dual detection of DNA breaks using TUNEL (A, B, C) and in situ ligation (A, B, C). Images are from 6 hr (A, A′), 24 hr (B, B′), and 72 hr (C, C′) after ischemia onset. DNA damage starts with detection of a variety of breaks detectable by TUNEL at 6 hr after ischemia onset and gradually proceeds toward lethal DNA damage at later times of ischemia (24 and 72 hr). The boxed area indicates the general area from which the images were taken (Bar, 100 µm).
