Myeloperoxidase activity, as measured in homogenates from the left ventricle of the mouse heart in PARS+/+ and PARS−/− sham control animals and PARS+/+ and PARS−/− animals subjected to IPC after 30 min occlusion of LAD and 24 hr reperfusion. After 30 min occlusion of LAD and 24 hr reperfusion, myeloperoxidase activity was significantly enhanced in PARS1 y1 mice but reduced remarkably in PARS2 y2 mice. IPC significantly reduced MPO levels in the PARS1 y1 mice, but did not further suppress the (already reduced) levels in the PARS2 y2 mice. Basal MPO levels in the hearts of sham mice amounted to 4.2 6 0.8 U/100 mg wet tissue (n 5 8). Data are shown as mean 6 SEM; n 5 7–8 determinations per experimental group.
