Cleavage of cellular caspase targets induced by etoposide is inhibited by p21WAF1. Cells treated as in Figure 4 were harvested and blotted for protein targets as indicated. Generation of the 85 kD poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP) fragment by etoposide is evident, and is decreased by p21WAF1. Retinoblastoma (Rb) cleavage fragments of 48 and 28 kD and lamin cleavage are similarly affected. Cleavage products are indicated by arrows.
