Electron microscopy of ileum TJ perfused lanthanum nitrate. Ileum from iNOS WT-treated with zymosan (500 mg/kg/i.p.) shows penetration of lanthanum nitrate (see arrow) within the junctional complex (A1) and deposition of the electron-dense marker between the microvilli (see arrowheads; A2). Ileum from shamoperated iNOS WT mice (B) and in zymosan-treated iNOS KO mice (C) shows intact junctional complex and demonstrates that the lanthanum marker (arrow) is accumulated under the TJ complex.
