Inhibition ELISA carried out with recombinant proteins representing each allelic form of PvMSP119. ELISA plates were coated with a bacterial recombinant protein representing PvMSP119 Belém allele. (A) The indicated recombinant fusion protein or GST was added at different concentrations in each well. Human serum from individual 40 was added at a dilution of 1:800. Results are expressed as the average of triplicate samples ± SD. (B) Average inhibition of the binding of human sera to recombinant protein PvMSP119 Belém. The indicated soluble recombinant proteins or GST was added to a final concentration of 10 µg/ml. The percentage of inhibition was calculated as described in Materials and Methods, individuals were selected for group I when inhibition values with either recombinant protein were >90%. Group II represents individuals who had inhibition of <90% when the recombinant protein PvMSP119 Asia was used. Results are expressed as the average of the indicated number of individuals ± SD.
