Ethyl pyruvate specifically inhibits the NLRP3 inflammasome activation. For Salmonella infection, unprimed macrophages were infected with wild-type S. typhimurium and the supernatant samples were collected 1 h after infection. For the AIM2 inflammasome activation, macrophages were transfected with DNA using Lipofectamine 2000 and the supernatant samples were collected 6 h after transfection. a Pro-caspase1, caspase1 and HMGB1 release were assessed by Western-blot. b Supernatant levels of HMGB1were determined by ELISA.
