Comparison of CARDS toxin expression between MPP cases with/without plug (a) and pleural effusion (b). Children with MPP were divided into MPP with plug group (N = 50) and MPP without plug group (N = 21), according to the presence or absence of mucus plugs. They were also divided into MPP with pleural effusion group (N = 42) and MPP without pleural effusion (N = 29) group, according to results of imageological examination.
