Schematic diagram of the molecular mechanism of macrophage-derived EV-loaded siHMGB1 in atherosclerotic plaque formation. Macrophage-EV/siHMGB1 can inhibit HMGB1 expression in macrophages and reduce its extracellular release, and then inhibit the transformation of macrophages to foam cells, which not only inhibits the activation of Caspase-11 in macrophages but also prevents macrophage pyroptosis, thus restraining atherosclerotic plaque formation
