Distribution of S1 phage in organs of animal models. Balb-c mice bearing HepG2 xenografts received intravenous injections of S1 phage clones. After 10 min, the free phages were washed out. Xenografts and some organs were removed for determination of phage titers. The level of S1 phage identified in the tumor mass is 2.2–10.5-fold higher than that in some organs such as the brain, lung, and heart and in nontumor liver tissue. However, there is no phage observed in the tumor mass in the mice treated with the nonspecific control phage.
