Each mosaic represents the average expression pattern of the same 1,638 gene probes from patients with septic shock in each of the four developmental-age groups. The degree of red intensity correlates with increased gene expression and the degree of blue intensity correlates with decreased gene expression. (B) Relative expression of genes corresponding to the indicated signaling pathways among patients with septic shock from each developmental-age group. Data are expressed as medians with interquartile ranges and were analyzed using ANOVA on ranks. *P < 0.05 versus infant, toddler and school-age groups. P < 0.05 versus school-age group.
