From: Iodine Uptake and Prostate Cancer in the TRAMP Mouse Model

Figure 2

(A) 125I uptake in normal (wild type) or tumoral (TRAMP) prostate. Mice of 12 or 24 wks received an injection of saline (control) or perchlorate (ClO4−); 2 h later, they were intraperitoneally injected with 0.001 Ci/kg body weight of either 125I− or 125I2. Mice were killed 2 h after tracer administration, and iodine uptake was analyzed as described in Figure 1. (B) Effect of iodine on NIS mRNA expression in normal and tumoral prostate. Iodine was supplemented for 24 wks (starting at 6 wks old). Thyroid and liver were used as positive and negative controls, respectively. NIS expression was analyzed by RT-qPCR. Data were analyzed using a two-way ANOVA, followed by the Bonferroni post hoc test. Different letters indicate significant differences between groups (p < 0.05). n.d., Not detected; n = 4−6 per group.
