Aerobic bacterial colony counts from juvenile wild-type mice pretreated with a pharmacologic MMP8 inhibitor versus vehicle. Juvenile wild-type mice treated with MMP8 inhibitor (n = 10) prior to cecal slurry injection had a higher intraperitoneal bacterial burden compared with mice treated with vehicle only and subjected to cecal slurry injection (n = 8, experiment performed twice). *p < 0.05 by 2-tailed t test.
